SPREE INSIDER
Main Street meets Bourbon Street
By Kathyrn DeLong

Past martini gras revelers.
Take a deep breath … The holiday season is officially over, which means you finally have some time to relax. Fortunately, the annual Buffalo Spree-sponsored Martini Gras at Shea’s Performing Arts Center doesn’t take place until February 7, by which time the holiday décor should be back in the attic, and you’ll be more than ready to enjoy a fun night in the city to support Buffalo’s biggest stage.

No city knows how to party harder than New Orleans. Sure, in Buffalo, we have Chippewa. But in the Big Easy there’s the slightly more famous and historic Bourbon Street, which draws hundreds of thousands of tourists each year during the annual Mardi Gras celebration that truly epitomizes the reputable NOLA nightlife. But luckily, Shea’s understands that a trip down to Louisiana might not comply with your work schedule, so they’re bringing Bourbon Street to Buffalo for the evening—complete with specialty drinks, (legal) riverboat gaming and lots of food, courtesy of local restaurants.

You provide the mask, and Shea’s will provide the beads. Feather boas are optional, but creative dress is encouraged. The evening will also include live music, psychic readings, and chances to win raffle prizes. Anyone over 21 is welcome, and tickets can be purchased for $20 before the event and at the door for $25.

If you can’t make it to Martini Gras, but still want to support Shea’s, there is much else happening at Main Street’s grand theater in January and February. S.S. Shea’s, featuring tropical drinks and a deluxe buffet, takes place on January 10, while Oscar Night America, Buffalo’s own Academy Awards party is scheduled for February 22. For additional information on any of these events, call Shea’s at 847-1410, or visit www.sheas.org.
