April was a busy month for Spree-sponsored events, and May is just as packed. In fact, we’re sponsoring three happenings on the same night.

ECMC’s Springfest Swingfest 2010 Black Tie Gala takes place May 1 at the Adam’s Mark Hotel, and it’s an important one for the hospital. “Support for the event will allow ECMC to continue to deliver the highest technical and personnel quality service,” says executive director Gia Coone.

The evening will consist of an extravagant cocktail hour, followed by a silent auction, a gourmet dinner, and dancing. Musical entertainment comes from Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, who first broke through when one of their songs was used in the film Swingers. The contemporary swing faves are frequent Queen City visitors; they opened the Thursday at the Square season in 2006.

Corporate sponsorships are available by contacting the ECMC Lifeline Foundation at 898-5800; individual tickets are also available for $200 each.

The Adoption STAR charity turns ten this year, and to celebrate the organization’s domestic and international adoption programs, Spree is sponsoring “Dazzling Decade: A Night of Stars” on May 1 at the Buffalo/Niagara Marriott on Millersport Highway in Amherst.

At 6 p.m., the evening begins with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Then guests will enjoy dinner, dancing, and awards presentations. There will also be a special candle lighting ceremony featuring Adoption STAR families.

Individual tickets are $75 per person; to find out more about the charity or the gala, call 639-3900 or visit www.adoptionstar.com.

Then there’s Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center’s Artists & Models. This year’s event, titled Stimulus, is—you guessed it—on May 1, and runs from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Rock Harbor Yard (57 Tonawanda Street, near Buffalo State).

The story behind A&M is an interesting one. It was established in 1984 by former Hallwalls performance curator and current Spree contributor Tony Billoni as an all-night multimedia dance party. It has grown in each incarnation, and today includes anywhere between twenty-five and forty-five artists’ installations, roving performan-ces, and a live music stage along with DJ. Every year has seen the party held at a different Buffalo location—one large enough to accommodate between 2,500 and 4,000 attendees.

An important FYI: No one under eighteen will be admitted, and alcohol is limited to guests twenty-one and over. For more information concerning this event, visit www.hallwalls.org.

Theater Night, presented by Spree and the Jewish Repertory Theatre of WNY, has become a spring tradition. This year’s show is From Door to Door, by James Sherman. It tells the story of three generations of Jewish women in America. This heart-warming tale is sure to have audiences both laughing and tearing up at the same time.

While Door runs from May 13 to June 6, May 20 is the night for a special two-for-one ticket offer for our readers—just mention Spree when calling to purchase tickets. The show will be followed by refreshments and a meet-and-greet with the cast. For tickets or more info, call 688-4114, extension 391, or visit www.jewishrepertorytheatre.com.
